Why are Theravadins rejecting Abhidhamma?

Fair enough. Rejecting the constitution can land you in some trouble in the US… though it doesn’t automatically revoke your citizenship.

Strictly speaking, I don’t think that SuttaCentral is a Theravada website or forum, although there are some Theravada monastics who are very active with it. And technically, I think that laypeople are not associated with a Vinaya tradition such as Theravada, Dharmaguptaka, or Mulasarvastivada.

Early Buddhism and Theravada are not synonymous, although many early Buddhist texts were preserved in the Pali Canon. There were also many EBT’s that were preserved in Chinese, and some as well in Sanskrit, Tibetan, Gandhari, and other languages.

If you are looking for a website or forum that only promotes “the tradition”, regardless of whether it was ever actually taught by the Buddha, that may be somewhere else. But if you are interested in what the historical Buddha may have originally taught, then SuttaCentral is a good place.
