How are you using D&D to attain Nibbana or intermediate state?

The only useful practice that can be done is to achieve a degree of right view (through the ‘voice of another’, discussion and contemplation) and practice right speech.

As for the rest, better to switch it off and meditate, without which all of this is wasted time, pretty much. There’s a story of how some people found a giant golden fish in a river. They took it to the king and the king was curious what this animal had done to get this golden colour and giant size. Then the Buddha(?) had said that in a previous birth there were two monks, one knew the Dhamma very well (highly learned) and the other was a meditator in the jungles, and didn’t know the Dhamma very well. The first one went on to receive lots of gifts and due to his craving for these gifts he was later born as a giant golden fish. The monk who meditated in the jungles went on to attain Nibbana, and wasn’t reborn. Moral of the story is too much book learning wont get you anywhere. Of course one must learn enough Dhamma to have right view (SN12.15) and enough to practice each of the steps of the N8FP. The story is probably commentarial, but makes a valid point.

Until you meditate, you will be like the spoon which doesn’t know the taste of the soup!

I think you can attain Sotapanna state by mindful practice in a Dhamma forum.

  • Elimination of self view
  • Elimination of clinging to rites and rituals
  • Elimination of doubt

Sotapana state considered Nibbana.

I think this is as far as one can go:

“When, bhikkhus, a noble disciple has purified and cleansed these two kinds of knowledge—knowledge of the principle (vijja) and knowledge of entailment (inference , anvaya)—he is then called a noble disciple who is accomplished in view … one who stands squarely before the door to the Deathless.” SN12.33

For further attainment, mental development (bhavana/7 factors of enlightenment) must be practiced.

What are those two kinds of knowledge in detail?
