From what I can tell, this is exactly what Christine did in the post about the Heart Sutra. She put the whole thing into an LLM and then posted it. Does the fact that the text is short mean that this part of the policy doesn’t apply?
This is a good point. I’d say that if there was a user who continuously posted erroneous translations then they should also be curbed. There shouldn’t be a burden on the community to continuously refute bad information.
The issue as I see it is that the posting of LLM translations is essentially frictionless. Literally anyone can plunk source text in and get something out. There is no natural limit, so a policy is needed.
Personally I think it does. And this may be part of why we view the topic differently. Perhaps even a big part, come to think of it. I’d wager that this forum has more readers than most academic Buddhist studies journals.
