Thanuttamo

Thanuttamo

My name is Ṭhānuttamo, and I am a Buddhist monk (bhikkhu) in the Theravāda tradition, born in 1987 near Bremen (Germany). From 2016–2023, I lived a first term as a monk in Europe and Asia, studying Pāḷi and part of its scriptures (Tipiṭaka, commentaries, and sub-commentaries) autodidactically and with the assistance of various teachers. After a brief period as a lay Buddhist practitioner training in the eight precepts (anāgārika), I again took higher ordination (upasampadā) in 2024 (Bangkok, Thailand).

For several years prior to my first ordination, I have been studying and practicing the Buddha’s teaching for about three years in retreat and in various monasteries throughout Europe and Asia, having first encountered the Buddha’s teachings in 2007.
