How to balance our spiritual practice

Sona was a rich man’s son, he lived a dedicate life. On hearing the
Buddha’s teaching, he decided to become a monk. He tried very hard to
practise, but did not attain any result. Failing to progress, he
despaired, even thinking of returning to lay-life and doing work of
merits. The Buddha using the parable of an Indian lute (vina / veena),
taught him how to balance energy with calmness, so that he put forth
fresh effort and attained arhathood.
