Are there any materials that are deemed unsuitable for making a Buddha Statue for a shrine?

People from “traditional” Buddhist cultures might not appreciate a Buddha statue made from recycled materials if it was obvious.
Did you have something particular in mind apart from traditional materials (wood, stone, cement)? Fiberglass is quite common now in Sri Lanka.
Buddha statues don’t come up in the EBT’s that I’m familiar with. This is probably more of a cultural issue.
