Absolutely! I worked in NYC (for nearly a year?) on eight precepts before I “went forth.” The hardest part was walking past the bagel shops on the way home from work in the evening :laughing:

I have a friend who is a Buddhist nun.

When she was still a lay person she kept the 8 precepts while holding down a full time job.

She would skip dinner in the evenings to meditate and study. She volunteered on the weekends at just about every Theravada temple in the area.
