Human extinction

Before finding the Buddha I previously considered myself anti-natalist, to the extent that bringing a human into the world would cause it to experience suffering (but now, I am not so sure). If one is not born as a human, one has no opportunity to experience the dhamma, is that correct? Can an animal or a deva reach enlightenment without a final rebirth as a human?

Devas can, but its hard unless one is a non-returner in the Pure Abodes. Animals can’t. The human realm is the best, as its considered to have the right amount of suffering and pleasure.

Hi, thanks for bringing this question up. It’s an important topic and I’ll come back to when not in a line at immigration.

But briefly , human life matters, and it matters especially because of what you can do with it.
