If there is no self, who is the one who is becoming an Arahant

I don’t like leaving words untranslated because it creates a mysteriousness around language that I think militates against the clarity of the Buddhist message.

I agree with what you’re saying and it certainly is vital to find a translation for all words and phrases. A translator has to do what a translator does! In some contexts, such as discussions here, I think using the Pali words instead of a second-best is in order. (i.e. jhana, nibbana, dukkha) I do my best to get a deep understanding of what the Pali is intended to convey and then it isn’t problematic for me.

The question is probably the wrong application of anatta in the experiential sense, even though its linguistically and logically valid.
