I Saw these palm trees at Seppeltsfield, SA, today. Planted circa 1930. The one in the middle has been cut.

The image that I get reading the suttas is that the palm/plantain/banana stumps lack a solid core is part of the message:
“When, for a monk, the obsession of sensual passion has been abandoned, its root destroyed, made like a palmyra stump, deprived of the conditions of development, not destined for future arising;
