MN4 Overcoming Fear During Solitary Practice: talk by Piya Tan

Bhaya Bherava Sutta (MN4)

The Bhaya Bherava Sutta has two key teachings. The first is that if we are of immoral conduct or have strong defilements, we need to deal with them first before taking up the solitary forest life; otherwise, we would be troubled by fear and terror [§§4-19]. The second key teaching is on the Buddha’s reasons for resorting to a secluded lodging in the forest or jungle [§34.2].
