The politics aside, the sad thing is that this sentiment describes a lot of Buddhist activity in the West (and increasingly in the East too). I remember joining a different forum where the members had an argument about who reached the first jhana first. It was like watching a bunch of children. No, I reached the first jhana first! No, I did! No, I’m better than you because I’m at the second one! No, I’m enlightened and you can’t prove me wrong!
That was funny to watch.
