The caṅkamanasālā building

In the Mahavagga of the Vinaya-pitaka I read about a certain building named caṅkamanasālā, a hall for walking meditation it seems. It can be build for a single monk, for many monks, the sangha.

Would that be a meditation hall where monks, nuns would do walking, maybe sitting, meditation together?

Dear @anon31486827,

According to Cones A Dictionar of Pali II (Ga-Na) page 97, caṅkamasālā - a hall or enclosure
for walking about in; V in II.

Hope this helps!

Happy vassa!

That’s right. It was allowed by the Buddha for protection from the elements while walking meditation.
