The context is like this Tuyhaṃ jīvanti supinadassanakāle nikkhamantaṃ vā pavisantaṃ vā jīvaṃ api nu passanti. Idha cittācāraṃ ‘‘jīva’’nti gahetvā āha. So hi tattha jīvasaññīti. From the commentary of payasi sutta.
