Going on with indexes, I now started the index of similes. Here I find that in some cases, the numbering on access to insight, where the index has been adapted from, is quite different from that on SC. I thought it might be helpful if I list here what I find. (Seeing this now, I am sure that the same problem also applies to the index of names which I have already translated. But there, I haven’t checked this.)
Animals bound together by a rope: SN 35.206 on AtI → SN 35.247 on SC
Arrow, removed: SN 1.5 in the list of similes → Snp 1.5; probably error due to the different naming conventions on the two sites
Bathman: AtI also seems to expand passages that are abbreviated in the root text (or maybe they use a different root text), so it comes that DN 11 and DN 12 are for example included in the list of Suttas that have the bathroom attendant simile, while on SC you don’t find this simile in DN 11 or DN 12.
Question: How to deal with this? I would tend to remove such Suttas from the list. There are others in the canon that are not listed (maybe because there is no translation of them on AtI), so we could add those instead.
Given all this, translating the index of similes takes much more time than I expected, and I am stopping at this point for today. But I will keep posting wrong links here as I find them.
The indexes are well known to be full of errors currently. It also occurred to me that there will be issues with translating any document that contains links, especially external links. A few errors were just pointed out in the getting started document. (sorry, I’m not a Bilara user)
The German version of the “getting started” document points, where possible, to resources in German language (but also refers to some English ones, as there are just not so many in German).
Hi @carmi or bhante @sujato
Would it be possible to include in Bilara text segments for the blurbs of AN7.85 onwards, until the end of the AN7?
Currently, the list available to me ends at AN7.84.
I would like to add blurbs for AN7.85 - AN7.618-644
I may have missed some dev notes or updates (I will check) but all of a sudden, Bilara seems to work flawlessly on iPad (using safari). I am not even sure why I tried to use it on my iPad because it was not at all possible earlier. I just wanted to share this. Whoever did whatever, it is incredibly convenient!
Thank you Ayya @sabbamitta I’ve updated the spreadsheet and created an issue on github so we don’t forget
Thank you, @carmi. I am still going to continue with the “simile” page, adding broken links to my above list; this will be the first step for a fix for this one.
The other indexes may then be done by someone else.
Dear Bilarists,
Just a comment here on chapter names. Up until now, I have been inconsistent in whether I included the word “Chapter” in the names of chapters (vagga). So the Ānandavagga might have been “With Ānanda” or “The Chapter with Ānanda”.
I’ve decided to standardize on the latter form, and always include the word “chapter” in chapter titles. Why?
This is not a requirement, as you have to decide what works best in your language. But as a recommendation, where possible, translate the word vagga in titles.
Bhante @sujato, you have added AN 4.106 to the English translations, which makes sense. Could it also be added to Bilara so that other translators could do a similar thing?
Adding: Maybe @carmi can add AN 4.106 to all translation projects that include the AN Fours? It’s a ghost sutta!
Happy to help with this Ayya @sabbamitta. Bhante added the root AN 4.106 file to the bilara-data
repository 15 months ago. AN projects that have been created since then display the root file in Bilara but earlier projects like yours and Gabriel’s don’t.
Bhante @sujato I wonder if the issue of the Bilara UI not refreshing in these cases can be fixed, or if there’s a workaround I can apply like deleting and re-entering the sutta project in _project.json
?
That sounds scary to me—would that not make all my work get lost?
Don’t worry Ayya, I wouldn’t try a workaround without testing it first Let’s see what Bhante and Blake recommend
The ghost of the sutta is haunting us!
I can’t further edit my post above, so start a new one here.

@Cittadhammo and I are planning the French translations together and more translators are likely to join us soon. We agreed that @Cittadhammo would focus on suttas while I will, at first, focus on the site until completed. With respect to this, there are a number of pages and elements of the site which I would find a priority to translate as they would help the French user to navigate the site and reach “deeper” content. At this time many of these are still flagged as unsafe. I know I asked this question before, however, I wonder if there is a revision roadmap for these pages that I could work with? Or alternatively, would it be possible to translate them already and update them once they are revised?
