sorry I am not following?

In DN 14, dependent origination is mentioned twice:

  1. Breakthrough into how dukkha arises & ceases, which is stream-entry
  2. Reply to Brahma, with the new Buddha saying the common people cannot penetrate dependent origination.

Neither of the above are related to the new Buddha ending the asava. In DN 14, the new Buddha ends the asava via observing arising & passing of the five aggregates of clinging.

I feel like we are at cross purposes here @CurlyCarl so I am going to disengage from this exchange. Thank you for your input.
