Hitchhiker's guide to the Dhamma

Hello world!

I’m a noob here, already warned once (eep) straight off the bat, so perhaps I won’t be here long. Pretty true to form I suppose, a bushwacker doesn’t stay in once place long. Apologies for any offense! As Bhante Buddharakkita says: intention & impact must both be monitored.

Here’s a little writing proffered forth for the community. I hope it brings a giggle and a fresh angle on the monastic assault on rushing defilement, specifically of the lay romantic sort. I’ve replaced the distasteful word for one hopefully more suited to the delicacies of the community here.

Main concern remains the same: wrong view, is it here?

8. incinerated

71. Incinerated

At Sāvatthī.

Standing to one side, that deity addressed the Buddha in verse:

“When what is incinerated do you sleep at ease?
When what is incinerated is there no sorrow?
What’s the one thing, Gotama,
whose killing you approve?”

“When anger’s incinerated you sleep at ease.
When anger’s incinerated there is no sorrow.
O deity, anger has a poisoned root
and a honey tip.
The noble ones praise its killing,
for when it’s incinerated there is no sorrow.”

Here’s the writing:

The gratification, the danger, the release.

\The intention of this passage: to increase tolerance while also providing sufficient amusement to carry the message.

Except from “Fools Rush In” by the Four Freshmen:

“Fools rush in where angels fear to tread
And so I come to you, my love, my heart above my head.
Though I see the danger there
If there’s a chance for me, then I don’t care

Mm-mm-mm-mm

Fools rush in where wise men never go
But wise men never fall in love, so how are they to know?
When we met, I felt my life begin
So open up your heart and let this fool rush in”

Ajahn Appichato, Monk #2 at Bodinyana Monastery (Samadhi Master Ajahn Brahmavamso’s abode in Western Australia) stated that “a being will fall from a higher realm the moment their state of consciousness changes to a defiled state”.

If so, those denizens of the lofty higher realms are naturally spooked by anything that threatens their state of consciousness. They like it there. It’s a reason why its so hard to get any real work (aka “woke” work) done, as if they did, they risk falling to a less pleasant spot.

Then, “Who’s the fool now sprite?”.

-Said the scallywag to the spritely one, teasing with love.

(Perhaps you’ll enjoy this
