New parallels to add

MN 128 verses 3 - 6 = Dhp 3 - Dhp 6 incidentally as well

MN 128 verses 8 -9 = Snp 1.3 verses 11 - 12

MN 128 verse 10 = Dhp 330

in fact (except verse 10) this info is contained in the textual information notes of these texts, so you perhaps already have it on file

BTW the links of these notes in the Pali MN 128 do not redirect to the relevant texts due to being malformed through addition of mn128 to the path, e.g.

https://suttacentral.net/pi/mn128/dhp320-333#326

It’s MN128 verses 6-9 matches dhp3-6. Yes, I have those in there. There are a few more parallels for these verses:

“parallels”: [“dhp#3”, “?skt-mu”, “ja371#4”, “ja428#3”, “mn128#6”, “pdhp#5”, “pi-tv-kd10#38”, “t212.15#vagga-gatha-num-sc15.9”, “t213.14#vagga-gatha-num-sc14.10”, “uv14#14.9”]

“parallels”: [“dhp#4”, “?skt-mu”, “ja371#5”, “ja428#4”, “mn128#7”, “pdhp#6”, “pi-tv-kd10#39”, “uv14#14.10”, “~t212.15#vagga-gatha-num-sc15.9”, “~t213.14#vagga-gatha-num-sc14.10”]

“parallels”: [“dhp#5”, “?skt-mu”, “ja371#6”, “ja428#5”, “mn128#8”, “pdhp#253”, “pi-tv-kd10#40”, “t210.9#vagga-gatha-num-sc9.5”, “t212.15#vagga-gatha-num-sc15.10”, “t213.14#vagga-gatha-num-sc14.9”, “uv14#14.11”]

“parallels”: [“dhp#6”, “?skt-mu”, “ja428#6”, “mn128#9”, “pdhp#254”, “pi-tv-kd10#41”, “t210.9#vagga-gatha-num-sc9.6”, “t213.14#vagga-gatha-num-sc14.7”, “thag4.3#verse-num-sc275”, “thag8.1#verse-num-sc498”, “uv14#14.8”]

“remarks”: “?skt-mu: Mūlasarvāstivādivinaya (Gilgit III.ii.184)”

This should be mn128 verses 11-12 and snp1.3 verses 45-46 (using new numbering system which is now online):

“parallels”: [“dhp#328”, “?skt-mu”, “ja428#8”, “mn128#11”, “pdhp#9”, “pi-tv-kd10#44”, “snp1.3#verse-num-sc45”, “t210.31#vagga-gatha-num-sc31.9”, “t212.15#vagga-gatha-num-sc15.11”, “t213.14#vagga-gatha-num-sc14.11”, “uv14#14.13”]
“mentions”: [“dhp#328”, “cnd23#134”, “tha-ap2#20”]

“parallels”: [“dhp#329”, “?skt-mu”, “ja428#9”, “mn128#12”, “pdhp#10”, “pi-tv-kd10#45”, “snp1.3#verse-num-sc46”, “t210.31#vagga-gatha-num-sc31.10”, “t212.15#vagga-gatha-num-sc15.12”, “t213.14#vagga-gatha-num-sc14.12-#vagga-gatha-num-sc14.13”, “uv14#14.14”],
“mentions”: [“dhp#329”, “cnd23#140”, “tha-ap2#21”],

And this would be mn128 verse 13

“parallels”: [“dhp#330”, “?skt-mu”, “ja428#10”, “mn128#13”, “pdhp#11”, “pi-tv-kd10#46”, “t210.2#vagga-gatha-num-sc2.14”, “t210.31#vagga-gatha-num-sc31.11”, “t212.15#vagga-gatha-num-sc15.21”, “t213.14#vagga-gatha-num-sc14.14”, “uv14#14.16”],

The DHP texts I have pretty much covered I think. Just not the two new Gandari DHP fragments and the Tibetan.

Very true … we have been working hard at a new system and the inline parallels will probably disappear. But good that you remind me … for now I will make them invisible because with the new numbering system they make even less sense as before.

SN 41.6 portion = MN 44 [portion] (https://suttacentral.net/pi/mn44/21-36)

there’re slight variations between them in the names of the speakers, gender and verbosity, but the core content is identical

Thanks. It is probably also parallel to sa568 but my Chinese is a bit rusty to figure out the exact part of it.

I just did SN 45.34 and wondered whether we had any parallels in our data. LOL:

Thanks @LXNDR.
I was wondering if you could check out the following set which is part of this also:

[“an10.99#8”, “dn2#46”, “mn101#38”, “mn27#23”, “mn38#95”, “mn76#22”, “mn94#13”]

(Note that the #-numbers are the sc paragraph numbers so this set only indicates one paragraph in each sutta but I guess it should be a bit more)

this is a bit complicated as there’re gaps in the sequence of passages

hope i got it mostly right as Pali is not my first language, not even the second, not even mine, i’ll just dump this here in the form of notes i jotted without fancy formatting

Thanks @LXNDR! That is a very detailed analysis.

I wonder if there is anybody who has Pali as his first language :relaxed:

I just have one question about the last set (starting with DN2 after the gap) where you mention MN76 - should this not be:
https://suttacentral.net/pi/mn76/22.157-25.79

ayya, regarding MN 76 there you’re completely right, my mistake

i also overlooked another part of the sequence, which comes after the second gap

i now made corrections and additions under the spoiler in the previous post, apologies

or her…
yep i’d love to meet such a marvel

Thanks!
I have added this to our JSON notation. It seems to me that the last two sets can be written as one, although they are not entirely the same, still similar enough. We only have a notation of the paragraphs that are included and not part of the paragraphs, but your remarks will be added to each of these suttas in the Discuss&Discover section of the Navigation panel.

Basically, you seem to have 3 sets (the 3 last ones), that together make up the first 2 sets.

So now I have:

1. ([“mn27#23-#43”, “mn76#22-#28”, “mn94#13-#28”, “mn101#38-#50”, “an10.99#8-#30”])

2. ([“mn38#95-#108”, “mn27#23-#39”, “mn76#22-#25”, “mn94#13-#25”, “mn101#38-#47”, “an10.99#8-#30”])

Statement 2 is incorporated into the next two parts (3 &4) so statement 2 is than no longer necessary:

3. [“dn2#46-#57”, “mn38#95-#103”, “mn27#23-#31”, “mn76#22”, “mn94#13-#20”, “mn101#38-#39”, “an10.99#8-#18”]

4. [“dn2#75-#95”, “mn38#104-#108”, “mn27#32-#39”, “mn76#22-#25”, “mn94#21-#25”, “mn101#41-#47”, “an10.99#19-#30”]

And statement 1 also becomes redundant when the next statement is added to that:

5. [“dn2#107-#111”, “mn27#40-#42”, “mn76#26-#28”, “mn94#26-#28”, “mn101#48-#50”]

@Sujato, can you also have look if you agree with this?

@Vimala, to draw your attention just in case, that the links in this post can be ignored as they’re lacking in accuracy due to my sloppiness and have been subsequently superseded by their correct variants in the post which followed

Yes, I have deleted that old one and replaced it with the new one. You can see it here:

There are a few more here that belong to the same group. Could you check those also?
“an3.156-162#2”, “an4.198#2”, “dn25#11”, “dn8#15”, “mn12#42”, “mn45#5”, “dn33#165”

This is also vaguely related to sn35.107.
