New parallels to add

I would think that sn35.122 and 123 are identical to itself, not a partial parallel … so maybe you forgot to change this?

Same with sn35.125 and sn35.138 so maybe you can check.

I have that iti24#6 is mentioned in kv1.1#158. Should it be a parallel instead of a mention?

SN 22.80 and MN 67 are bisectional parallels from the words Santettha, bhante, bhikkhū navā (MN 67) and Santettha bhikkhū navā (SN 22.80) up to the words anuggaṇhātu bhikkhusaṃghan”ti in both

the difference in the first parallel section is the speaker: lay people vs Buddha himself and omission of some sentences due to that

the 2nd parallel section is Brahma Sahampati’s plea

What’s wrong with self-identity? Let’s list all the suttas as being identical to themselves, that will make everything simpler! :sunglasses:

Okay, serious now:

  • SN 35.122 resembles SN 35.109
  • SN 35.123 resembles SN 35.110

As for 125 and 138, just drop the repetition. Sorry about the confusion!

No, you’re right, it’s a mention. Except the paragraph number seems to have been confused for some reason. It’s actually Kv1.1#181.

Huh. A new term! Thanks as always for your help.

Thanks @LXNDR. Sofar I have been able to add quiet a number of parallels due to your work. I was just wondering if for the future you could use the highlight function in SC to show exactly which paragraphs you mean. If you highlight a portion of text, a link appears a the top of that section which you can click on to copy it to clipboard. Then that link can be used here to show which section you mean exactly. For instance:

@Vimala for me this function is a bit quirky, maybe due to the outdated version of the browser i use, so i just find recourse in more reliable and quick methods

but i’ll make sure to use it consistently from now on

DN1 is mentioned in the following: SN 41.3, pi-tv-kd21#26, vb17#21

Also the verse at Ud 7.5 is mentioned in both SN 41.5 and Pe 2. These parallels should be in there already (from cross-reference data), just to confirm that they are mentions.

I am not sure this is the right place to report a parallel not yet mentioned on the site?

Ud. 2.3 ends with verse that is the same as Dhp 131

Done.

This is in right now like this:

“parallels”: [“sn41.5#3”, “ud7.5#6”],
“mentions”: [“sn41.5#3”, “pe2#119”]

Guess it has to be changed to:

“mentions”: [“ud7.5#6”, “sn41.5#3”, “pe2#119”]

i.e. ud7.5#6 is mentioned in the other two.

Thanks for your help. We actually have it in our list already but it is not showing yet: we are working on it. Actually, this verse appears in a few other places too:

“parallels”: [“dhp#131”, “pdhp#203”, “t212.31#vagga-gatha-num-sc31.3”, “t213.30#vagga-gatha-num-sc30.3”, “ud2.3#3”, “uv30#30.3”],
“mentions”: [“dhp#131”, “ne37#18”, “ne37#70”, “ne9#7”]

If ever you find another parallel, please let us know!

MN 128 verses 3 - 6 = Dhp 3 - Dhp 6 incidentally as well

MN 128 verses 8 -9 = Snp 1.3 verses 11 - 12

MN 128 verse 10 = Dhp 330

in fact (except verse 10) this info is contained in the textual information notes of these texts, so you perhaps already have it on file

BTW the links of these notes in the Pali MN 128 do not redirect to the relevant texts due to being malformed through addition of mn128 to the path, e.g.

https://suttacentral.net/pi/mn128/dhp320-333#326

It’s MN128 verses 6-9 matches dhp3-6. Yes, I have those in there. There are a few more parallels for these verses:

“parallels”: [“dhp#3”, “?skt-mu”, “ja371#4”, “ja428#3”, “mn128#6”, “pdhp#5”, “pi-tv-kd10#38”, “t212.15#vagga-gatha-num-sc15.9”, “t213.14#vagga-gatha-num-sc14.10”, “uv14#14.9”]

“parallels”: [“dhp#4”, “?skt-mu”, “ja371#5”, “ja428#4”, “mn128#7”, “pdhp#6”, “pi-tv-kd10#39”, “uv14#14.10”, “~t212.15#vagga-gatha-num-sc15.9”, “~t213.14#vagga-gatha-num-sc14.10”]

“parallels”: [“dhp#5”, “?skt-mu”, “ja371#6”, “ja428#5”, “mn128#8”, “pdhp#253”, “pi-tv-kd10#40”, “t210.9#vagga-gatha-num-sc9.5”, “t212.15#vagga-gatha-num-sc15.10”, “t213.14#vagga-gatha-num-sc14.9”, “uv14#14.11”]

“parallels”: [“dhp#6”, “?skt-mu”, “ja428#6”, “mn128#9”, “pdhp#254”, “pi-tv-kd10#41”, “t210.9#vagga-gatha-num-sc9.6”, “t213.14#vagga-gatha-num-sc14.7”, “thag4.3#verse-num-sc275”, “thag8.1#verse-num-sc498”, “uv14#14.8”]

“remarks”: “?skt-mu: Mūlasarvāstivādivinaya (Gilgit III.ii.184)”

This should be mn128 verses 11-12 and snp1.3 verses 45-46 (using new numbering system which is now online):

“parallels”: [“dhp#328”, “?skt-mu”, “ja428#8”, “mn128#11”, “pdhp#9”, “pi-tv-kd10#44”, “snp1.3#verse-num-sc45”, “t210.31#vagga-gatha-num-sc31.9”, “t212.15#vagga-gatha-num-sc15.11”, “t213.14#vagga-gatha-num-sc14.11”, “uv14#14.13”]
“mentions”: [“dhp#328”, “cnd23#134”, “tha-ap2#20”]

“parallels”: [“dhp#329”, “?skt-mu”, “ja428#9”, “mn128#12”, “pdhp#10”, “pi-tv-kd10#45”, “snp1.3#verse-num-sc46”, “t210.31#vagga-gatha-num-sc31.10”, “t212.15#vagga-gatha-num-sc15.12”, “t213.14#vagga-gatha-num-sc14.12-#vagga-gatha-num-sc14.13”, “uv14#14.14”],
“mentions”: [“dhp#329”, “cnd23#140”, “tha-ap2#21”],

And this would be mn128 verse 13

“parallels”: [“dhp#330”, “?skt-mu”, “ja428#10”, “mn128#13”, “pdhp#11”, “pi-tv-kd10#46”, “t210.2#vagga-gatha-num-sc2.14”, “t210.31#vagga-gatha-num-sc31.11”, “t212.15#vagga-gatha-num-sc15.21”, “t213.14#vagga-gatha-num-sc14.14”, “uv14#14.16”],

The DHP texts I have pretty much covered I think. Just not the two new Gandari DHP fragments and the Tibetan.

Very true … we have been working hard at a new system and the inline parallels will probably disappear. But good that you remind me … for now I will make them invisible because with the new numbering system they make even less sense as before.

SN 41.6 portion = MN 44 [portion] (https://suttacentral.net/pi/mn44/21-36)

there’re slight variations between them in the names of the speakers, gender and verbosity, but the core content is identical

Thanks. It is probably also parallel to sa568 but my Chinese is a bit rusty to figure out the exact part of it.
