Visit of Luang Por Piak to Brazil

We inform you that Luang Pók Piak, Ajahn Mudito’s teacher, will be in Brazil for a brief visit later this month. He will be accompanied by Luang Pó Isara and Ajahn Sapai, as well as a group of lay disciples. Although they remain in Brazil for longer days, the only events open to the public will take place at the Suddhavāri Monastery, in São Lourenço, June 22 and 23.

Day 22, during the day, he will visit the place and at the end of the afternoon will be available to chat informally with visitors. The meeting will take place at the home of Silvio Piantino (where there is a sign written “Dhammaghara”, just outside the monastery’s street) around 17:00.

Saturday, 23rd, is when we will hold a ceremony to formally dedicate the monastery grounds to the Buddha Sāsanā and baptize the meditation hall of “Kantasīla Vihāra”, in honor of Luang Pó Piak. The ceremony will begin at 8:30, there will be a short land offer ceremony, a lecture on the teachings of the Buddha, a recitation of Buddhist texts to bless the gifts and then another quick ceremony installing the plaque as the hall name. Admission is free and it is not necessary to register. All are welcome.

This place is very special , an oasis of peace and Dhamma in between the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.

Hi Viveka, sure Suddhavari is a piece o land in the hills near a small town called Sao Lourenço famous for its pure air and many mineral water springs.

It is currently a hermitage with three kutis and one resident a Brazilian bhikkhu named Ajahn Mudito who was ordained in Wat PaNanachat 15 years ago.

Ajahn Mudito spent most of his monastic life living in forest hermitages in Central Thailand. Among his masters are direct disciples of Ajahn Chah such as Luanpor Piak and Luanpor Liem.

The decision of starting Suddhavari was also supported by important individuals such as Luanpor Sumedho, Ajahn Amaro and Ajahn Chandapalo.

Ajahn Mudito is a very pragmatic, down to earth and humble bhikkhu. He is very focused and invested in the construction of Suddhavari and I was really impressed by how much he has achieved in so little time. He manages to go on pindabaat alone every day in a place where most are Christians and his teachings seem to touch people’s heart as a call for simplicity, clarity and sense.

Like Ajahn @sujato Ajahn Mudito does not trust in Facebook and he setup a closed online community in which Brazilians from all over the country get in touch with him and get constant updates from the construction and occasional questions about Dhamma answered.

People are free to contact and book visits to and stays at Suddhavari.

Having been to numerous retreat centres and forest hermitages in Thailand and other countries I was impressed to feel at Suddhavari the same sort of vibe and harmony I felt in other special places! If you know anyone passing by or living in Brazil please do recommend they pay a visit to such special place!

Beautiful Pictures Gabriel!

The Theravada Buddhism Community in Brazil has found a beautiful place for the construction of this Monastery.

The Brazilians are very fortunate to have a Theravada Buddhist Monastery here in Brazil.

Not in South America that I am aware of. There are however temples and centers from traditions other than Theravada , Google will help you finding out about that …

Maybe this is of interest:
