Haiku: your pet peeve and other musings about Buddhism

Inspired by my stay at Santi Forest Monastery 16-22.3.21

Santi Forest Sounds

Rain falling gently
through Eucalyptus tree crowns
on dark cloudy night.

Kookaburra calls,
first call out of deep silence
of forest at dawn.

Lyrebird follows
with chorus of diverse birds
uplifting the heart.

Then again dark night
peaceful to rest undisturbed
in Santi forest.

Santi on a Rainy Day

Rain paused for a walk -
mist rising from deep ravine,
empty seat too wet.

Rain started again –
mist rising and rain falling
merged into one fog.

From a safe refuge
can enjoy the rise and fall
without getting wet.

Aboriginal
place near a deep ravine,
now Santi its name.

It takes matter and
mind to develop life forms –
magic show in space.

Like states of matter –
anicca and anatta
so are states of mind.

Sukkha and dukkha –
just waves in vast emptiness
play of Samsara.
